形态描述：乔木，高达30米，胸径达1米；幼树树皮淡褐色、不开裂，老则浅纵裂，成条片状，灰褐色或暗褐色；枝条平展；一年生枝淡黄灰色或淡黄褐色，无毛，有光泽，二、三年生枝呈灰色、灰黄色或灰褐色；冬芽卵圆形，有树脂。叶在果枝下面列成两列，上面的叶斜上伸展，在营养枝上排成两列；条形，直伸或成弯镰状，长2-4厘米，宽1.5-2.5毫米，先端急尖或渐尖，上面深绿色、有光泽，下面沿中脉两侧各有1条白色气孔带，生于果枝上之叶的上面近先端或中上部通常有2-5条不规则的气孔线；横切面有2个中生树脂道，上面至下面两侧边缘有一层连续排列的皮下层细胞，稀有极为疏生的皮下层细胞形成第二层，下面中部一至二层，二层者内层不连续排列。球果圆柱形，长6-14厘米，径3.5-4厘米，近无梗，熟时淡黄褐色或淡褐色；中部种鳞近扇状四边形或倒三角状扇形，上部宽圆、微厚，边缘内曲，两侧较薄，有细缺齿，中部楔状微圆，或微缩而两侧突出，基部窄成短柄状，鳞背露出部分被密生短毛；苞鳞短，长不及种鳞的一半，不露出，楔状倒卵形或倒卵形，上部微圆，先端有急尖的刺状尖头，背部有纵脊，中部极短、微收缩，下部渐窄; 种子倒三角状，长8-9毫米， 种翅宽大，淡褐色，较种子为长，长方状楔形，先端平截，宽约1.1厘米，下部微窄，边缘有细波状缺刻，连同种子长约2.4厘米；子叶5-6枚，条形，长2.5-3.3厘米，宽1.5-2毫米，先端钝或微凹，初生叶长1.5-1.8厘米，宽约1毫米，先端渐尖。花期4-5月，球果10月成熟。
