形态描述：小灌木，高20-50厘米。茎外倾或平卧，下部常生有不定根；枝互生，浅绿色，有时常带紫红色，具微条棱。叶互生，叶片宽卵形至卵形，肥厚，通常长1-2厘米，宽8-15毫米，全缘，两面均为灰绿色，有密粉，先端圆或钝，基部宽楔形至圆形; 叶柄长1-3毫米。花于枝的上部集成有叶的短穗状花序；雄花花被锥形，4-5深裂，裂片倒卵形，先端内折，雄蕊与花被裂片同数但通常不全发育，花丝扁平，基部连合，无退化子房；雌花的苞片果时三角形至卵状菱形，边缘具不整齐锯齿，仅近基部的边缘合生，靠基部的中心部木栓质臌胀，黄白色，中线两侧常常各有1个向上的突出物。胞果扁，卵形，果皮膜质。种子红褐色至黑色，宽约1.5毫米。果期12月至翌年1月。
