形态描述：直立小灌木，高达1米，木质茎粗长，直立，稀部分匍匐状，基部径达1-1.5厘米，中部茎枝一般径3-4毫米；小枝细，径约1毫米，节间短，长1-3.5厘米，多为1:5-2.5厘米，纵槽纹细浅不明显，常被白粉呈蓝绿色或灰绿色。叶2裂，长1.5-2毫米，褐色，大部合生，上部约1/4分离，裂片短三角形，先端钝。雄球花单生或3-4个集生于节上，无梗或开花时有短梗，卵圆形或窄卵圆形，长3-4毫米，宽2-3毫米，苞片3-4对，基部约1/3合生，假花被近圆形，雄蕊6-8，花丝全部合生，微外露，花药2室，稀3室；雌球花常2个对生于节上，窄卵圆形或窄菱形，苞片3对，菱形或卵状菱形，最上一对苞片约2/3合生，雌花1-2，珠被管长达2毫米，稍弯曲。雌球花成熟时肉质红色，长卵圆形或卵圆形，长8-10毫米，径4-5毫米，具短梗；种子通常1粒，窄长卵圆形，长约7毫米，径2.5-3毫米, 顶端窄缩成颈柱状，基部渐窄圆，具明显的点状种脐与种阜。花期6-7月，种子8-9月成熟。
