形态描述：植株有时丛生；根稍粗，直径1-2毫米，有时分枝多，近末端处常膨大成矩圆形、椭圆形或纺缍形的肉质小块根；根状茎短，木质，具地下走茎。叶长25-60厘米，宽4-6 (-8)毫米，先端急尖或钝，基部常包以褐色的叶鞘，上面深绿色，背面粉绿色，具5条脉，中脉比较明显，边缘具细锯齿。花葶通常长于或几等长于叶，少数稍短于叶，长25-65厘米；总状花序长6-15(-20)厘米，具多数花；花通常（2-)3-5朵簇生于苞片腋内；苞片小，披针形，最下面的长4-5毫米，干膜质；花梗长约4毫米，关节位于中部以上或近顶端；花被片矩圆形、矩圆状披针形，长4-5毫米，先端钝圆，淡紫色或淡蓝色；花丝长约2毫米；花药狭矩圆形，长约2毫米；子房近球形，花柱长约2毫米，稍弯，柱头不明显。种子近球形，直径约5毫米。花期5-7月，果期8-10月。
